Professional skills / Key qualification training

For a successful scientific career, it is necessary for the students to acquire transferable skills. The “Graduate Academy” of the TUD (GA) offers doctoral candidates a broad qualification program with seminars and workshops that includes five main topics:

a) Skills for Scientific Research,

b) Science Communication,

c) Professional in Science / Research Management,

d) Leadership and Management Skills,

e) Career Development.

Taking into consideration the interdisciplinary and intercultural structure of the IRTG, we will also focus on f) Intercultural communication and cross-cultural management.
The IRTG-MEDIS is dedicated to conducting research according to the rules of Good Scientific Practice and research ethics. The MEDIS introductory course (MEDIS - IC)  explicitly focuses on Good Scientific Practice in the beginning of the PhD and MD period. Furthermore and if applicable, the IRTG-MEDIS students will be trained in animal experimentation by attending “Courses accredited by FELASA under the ‘Functions’ system”, which allows them to qualify for the FELASA certification and to work independently with animal models. Complementary training modules in animal models of metabolic diseases and infections are provided in the MEDIS practical courses (MEDIS – PC).
