# Particle Physics with ATLAS at the LHC

Our research focus is on particle searches with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using signatures with tau lepton decays. The data analyses are mainly

- Search for heavy neutral Higgs bosons and heavy Z' bosons decaying into pairs of tau leptons with emphasis on fully hadronic decays
- Search for resonant excitations of gravitons in models with extra dimensions with boosted tau lepton and b quark pairs

We have long-term expertise in reconstruction and identification of hadronic tau decays for isolated and boosted decay topologies. Our group members contribute to the ATLAS core software packages to implement new reconstruction algorithms and analyses techniques. We use advanced statistical methods for hypothesis testing and for multivariate data analysis, like boosted decision trees, artificial neural networks and deep-learning techniques.

The Run 2 of LHC has started in 2015 and will continue until end of 2018. We will use the corresponding ATLAS data to explore new physics phenomena beyond the Standard Model.
