It´s a family affair: Promoting healthy child development in the context of early life adversity
Prof. Dr. Anna-Lena Zietlow
Early life adversity is the exposure to adverse childhood experiences including among others maltreatment, abuse or neglect, parental psychopathology, and adverse parenting behaviors. It represents a major risk factor for mental illness over the lifespan, but the underlying mechanisms by which these experiences increase the risk for future psychopathology have not yet been conclusively clarified. The presentation will focus on the effects and underlying transmission mechanism, psychobiological correlates as well as contextual factors of parental depressive and anxiety disorders on child development, including approaches for prevention and intervention.
The Struggle Within: Understanding the Role of Ambivalence in Judgment and (Social) Decision-making
Prof. Dr. Iris Schneider
Ambivalence is a common experience in human life, referring to the simultaneous presence of positive and negative thoughts and emotions toward people, issues, objects, and situations. My research program focuses on exploring the repercussions of this experience on decision-making processes, interpersonal judgment, and behavior. The body of work I present encompasses a diverse array of research questions and methodologies, aiming to deepen our understanding of the distinct psychological profile associated with ambivalence and its consequent effects.
