Mechanical Engineering is one of the traditional engineering disciplines that deals with the development, production and operation of machines and plants in all industrial sectors. Mechanical engineering studies at TU Dresden provide fundamental knowledge in the natural sciences and engineering and a profile recommendation that has a focus on methods and tasks and allows a first specialisation. After having completed basic courses, students can opt for one of eight profile recommendations that is best suited to their abilities and professional intent:
- General and Structural Mechanical Engineering
- Energy Technology
- Automotive and Rolling Stock Engineering

- Aerospace Engineering
- Production Engineering
- Simulation Methods in Mechanical Engineering
- Processing Machines and Textile Machinery Manufacturing
Students gain the knowledge and skills needed to efficiently use machines and plants, but also to utilise equipment with regard to the environment and to use resources responsibly. The combination of research and teaching provides a great opportunity for students to get a practical insight into the various application areas of mechanical engineering. The successful completion of the Bachelor programme offers students the chance to continue mechanical engineering studies in a postgraduate Diplom programme at our department or to enrol in a Master’s programme at another university.
