Herb garden at the teaching kitchen of TU Dresden
Students are improving their learning environment by planting a herb garden at the teaching kitchen of the Institute for Vocational Education and Didactics at TU Dresden and by developing a care plan for sustainable use of the raised beds.
In a seminar paper, students developed a detailed project plan in the winter semester 2019/2020. In addition to the location and selection of materials, this plan also takes into account the time and financial aspects of the project in great detail. In autumn 2020, the raised beds were constructed by the students and planted with hardy herbs. The project group received support from teaching staff from elementary school didactics. The raised beds were made from sustainable ecological building materials. The Botanical Garden of the TU Dresden provided the filling materials for the raised beds and the Sustainable Campus Project of the Environmental Protection Group financed the planting. In the coming years, fresh herbs can always be used by students in the teaching kitchen, further improving teaching conditions.
