TUD senate supports rectorate in continuing to actively engage in media for an open-minded and tolerant society
"The senate is supporting the rectorate in the name of the
university, to continue to actively engage in public discourse
and media for an open-minded and tolerant society." This was
unanimously decided in a secret ballot of TU Dresden's senate
on 14 January 2015.
The rector of TU Dresden, Professor Hans Müller-Steinhagen,
sees this as confirmation of the university's clear position on
open-mindedness and tolerance: "We are grateful and proud, that
we at TU Dresden learn, teach, work and live with around 5,000
international scientists and students to achieve top
performances in research and teaching together. Science is
international! TU Dresden thrives on interaction between
foreign and German students and scientists, who are all a firm
part of our university, regardless of religion and background.
Due to events in the last few weeks, the reputation of Dresden
and Saxony has already suffered significant damage, far beyond
the borders of our country. Unfortunately, TU Dresden has even
experienced some individual cases of foreign scientists leaving
because of current developments in Dresden. Given this fact, I
am particularly grateful that the TU Dresden's senate, in a
secret ballot yesterday, decided to support the rectorate in
the name of the university, to continue to actively engage in
public discourse and media for an open-minded and tolerant
society."
