Operation and interlocking simulation (BEST) in the railway operations laboratory
The Operations and Interlocking Simulation (BEST) by Scheidt&Bachmann (formerly Funkwerk IT) is a computer system for simulating a sub-centre of an operations control centre of DB Netz AG with electronic interlockings (ESTW Siemens).
By exchanging protocols with the vehicle control computer, the system is linked to the model layout. Trains that leave the BEST area as a data set are sent from the staging yard (Klotzsche station) as model trains onto the line to Neustadt. Trains from Neustadt station to Klotzsche (staging yard) break into the BEST area as simulated trains.
Main contents to be learned
- Operation of several stations and lines with one ESTW
- Identifying an overview of train movements on a control area and independently carrying out and dispatching train movements based on a timetable for train reporting points
- Observe and implement dispatching decisions of a dispatching centre
