Germany participates in the JPI Urban Europe
In early July 2015, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has been officially accepted as a German partner in the Joint Programming Initiative Urban Europe. The accession of the BMBF will bring a European and international perspective to the activities for the Science Year 2015 “Future City” and the National Platform for the Future City.
Joint Programming is one of the instruments for the continuing implementation of the European Research Area (ERA). The intention behind it is to increase the efficiency of research in Europe by means of voluntary, transnational co-operation of Member States in “variable geometry”, and by putting together national resources.
The Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) Urban Europe was set up in 2010 to strengthen European research and innovation in the field of urban development. The aim is to create attractive, sustainable and economically viable urban areas, in which European citizens, communities and their surroundings can thrive.
The JPI Urban Europe has developed a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) with the ambition to set a scene for and ensure its contribution to a new urban research and innovation paradigm. The SRIA will be presented during the 2015 JPI Urban Europe High Profile conference “Transition towards sustainable and liveable urban futures”. The event, jointly organized with European institutions, will take place in Brussels on Tuesday the 29th and Wednesday the 30th September 2015. A multitude of European Union representatives and delegates from all JPI Urban Europe member states will be present.
