Selection of optimal IT components for an RDM project
In practice, data management is strongly associated with IT and digitalization. This is hardly surprising, as digital methods are primarily used to manage digital data and processes. However, at a time when sophisticated IT tools can take on a wide range of tasks, this gives rise to the expectation that there is the ONE tool for data management as well.
What GOOGLE can do, research data management can do too! Or ...? we discussed in an earlier article. No, not at the moment. Rather, there is a multitude of specialized tools that need to be profitably combined for a functioning RDM. These tools can be roughly divided into five areas:
- Storage systems - Where is data stored?
- Metadata management - How can the context of the data be preserved?
- Computing power and data analysis - How can data processing and data analysis be supported?
- Publication - How can information and knowledge from the research process be made available to a specific target group?
- Data integration - How can data from another context be made usable for your own?
Would you like to find out which tools within the TUD's IT infrastructure can be used for your RDM project? Or do you see a need for support for your RDM project in one of the five areas?
