Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize 2027
The Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize is awarded for outstanding research achievements and is one of the most important research funding prizes in Germany. The funds are intended to improve the working conditions of outstanding top researchers and expand their research opportunities, relieve them of administrative workloads and make it easier for them to employ particularly qualified early-career researchers. Up to ten prizes, each endowed with 2.5 million euros, can be awarded annually.
Criteria for the selection of award winners
- The candidate holds a leading position or an outstanding position in their field of research.
- The scientific achievements to date are
- scientifically excellent and exceptional,
- original and pioneering,
- internationally leading and
- have advanced the further development of their own field of research.
- The scientific achievements can be expected to have a lasting influence on the future development of the research field.
- The candidate is particularly attractive to researchers in an early career phase and scientists from Germany and abroad.
Proposal modalities
The prize can be awarded to scientists and research teams from all scientific disciplines. The following documents should be submitted, preferably in English and German, in order to broaden the scope for assessment:
- a professional and personal appraisal of approximately one to two pages justifying the proposal,
- a scientific curriculum vitae (without photo),
- a current list of publications.
