As an empirical social science, media and communication studies deal with the systematic research of the conditions, structures, processes, content, and consequences of public communication, particularly communication mediated by mass media. The major in Media Research as part of the Bachelor's degree programme in Humanities, Cultural and Social Sciences imparts basic knowledge of communication science and allows students to specialize in selected research areas. In addition to training in social science research methods and statistical data evaluation, the degree program also includes a practical professional component.
The Master's degree program in Applied Media Research focuses on empirical methods for researching media and public communication. Based on social science, psychological, and statistical theories, this program imparts knowledge of central results from scientific and commercial research.
