IP-KOM-ÖV:
Internet Protokoll basierte Kommunikation im öffentlichen Verkehr
(internet protocol-based communication for public transport)
IP-KOM-ÖV is a standardization project intitiated by the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV), industrial enterprises, transportation companies and universities. The objective of the project is a standardized internet protocol-based communication services for mobile devices carried by passengers.

The project was divided into 5 topics (AKs), based on working groups, whose members contribute their know-how from the companies mentioned above on various aspects of the project. Basically, each group works independently. However, they maintain close contact to exchange results with each other. Management of AK2 in the IP-KOM-ÖV project is the role of the junior professorship "Software Engineering of Ubiquitious Systems", concentrating on the passenger and information requirements. Via defined interfaces the passengers' mobile devices recieve the necessary information. The emerging standard is also intended to support potential developments in the future. The modelling of communication concepts between vehicle and passenger is a fundamental aspect of this research project. The project will be running until early 2014. The results are going to be introduced in european and VDV-standards.
