Mission statement
The tradition of the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering and our responsibility for the present and future prompted us to set out our basic principles regarding the faculty’s philosophy and conduct in a mission statement. It gives guiding directions to all members of the faculty and formulates the principles on which the faculty bases its substantive work and its culture of cooperation. The mission statement of the faculty is embedded in the mission statement of Technische Universität Dresden.
The Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering follows seven guiding principles:
1. As a faculty, we offer excellent training and encourage future engineers to work towards a future with a high quality of living.
2. We impart a fascination for and the social significance of engineering in everyday life.
3. Vibrant enthusiasm for research forms the basis of our teaching. We see research and teaching as an adventure, exploring uncharted territory.
4. Our research activities are directed towards the social requirements of the future. We also align our training concepts and structures accordingly.
5. Students, staff and professors interact with mutual respect, sincerity and openness.
6. Materials, time and energy are valuable. We use them efficiently.
7. Competence depends on lifelong learning. This is what we convey to our students and what all employees of the faculty exemplify through continuous training.
Each principle is illustrated by a brief guideline. Click here for the entire mission statement document (German).
The wording of the mission statement includes any person, regardless of gender.
