Testing technology
In the textile testing lab of the ITM, textile-physical tests are performed on fibers/filaments, yarns/rovings, fabric sheets and composite components. The tests are performed in air-conditioned lab rooms under DIN EN ISO 139 standard conditions.
Standard tests according to the usual standards are offered. Tests under special conditions implemented by clients can also be performed.
For special testing task resulting from research projects or in production, the advisory service of the ITM textile testing lab is ready to help.
Apart from widely available standard devices, special equipment, often developed and built at the ITM, is available for the following tests:
- determination of force-elongation behavior of fibers, yarns, textile fabrics, and fiber-reinforced plastic materials,
- biaxial tensile tests of textile fabrics and composites,
- determination of tensile, pressure and bending properties by means of high-speed tensile testers on rovings, textile fabrics and composites,
- examination of physiological properties of textile fabrics,
- tests of composite impact resistance,
- examinations of abrasion and pilling behavior of textile fabrics, and
- setup and use of special testing rigs according to client requirements.
To characterize various textile structure regarding their morphology and, thus, their function, light microscopy is a useful tool for research, development and quality control. The samples are prepared histologically or in the form of microsections, and can be offered before the microscope imaging itself.
