Global Citizenship Education
GCC as a promoter of Global Citizenship Education (GCED)
GCC is a committed contribution of TU Dresden to implement Sustainable Development Goal 4, also known as Agenda Education 2030, coordinated by UNESCO. Within this framework, Global Citizenship Education (GCED) is a sub-goal to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Three dimensions of Global Citizenship Education
Global Citizenship Education comprises three core dimensions: the cognitive dimension, the socio-emotional dimension, and the behavioral dimension.
The cognitive dimension includes knowledge, understanding of local, national and global issues, the interconnectedness and interdependency of different countries and populations as well as skills for critical thinking and analysis.
The socio-emotional dimension focuses on the sense of belonging to a common humanity sharing values and responsibilities, based on human rights, and developing the attitudes of empathy, solidarity and respect for differences and diversity.
The behavioral dimension aims to strengthen effective and responsible action at regional and global level for a more peaceful and sustainable world, as well as to help develop motivation and willingness to take necessary actions.
