Are you looking for new strategies for learning and writing and would like to test them out in a group in order to get feedback from other students? Then sign up for a workshop on academic writing, learning and working techniques, time management, scientific communication, presentation skills or project management. Often it is much easier to write and work together than by yourself. We help you founding a writing group, are happy to give you recommendations on how to work effectively together and support you moderating your group meetings.

About Tutors for Academic Writing and Key Competences

The diversity of offers at the Writing Centre is made possible with the support of the student tutors. Our student tutors mainly carry out the workshops and counselling offers for students. This encourages joint learning with peers, which makes it easier to ask questions openly and discuss strengths and weaknesses. We train the student tutors for their assigned tasks. The structuring, implementation, evaluation and development of this training and the close supervision of the tutors are amongst the central tasks of the Writing Centre.

A cordial invitation to the event “Write through the Night” (Lange Nacht des Schreibens; LNdS) every 1^st Thursday in March in the Saxon State Library – Dresden Sate and University Library (SLUB)!

We support teachers with further training in academic writing on the following topics:

Supervision of student writing projects, e.g.

• accompanying students in academic writing during counselling sessions
• giving feedback
• evaluating and marking seminar papers and thesis

Use of writing in teaching, e.g.

• practicing writing (hier auf der deutschen Seite das “Das” am Satzanfang weg): Preparing students for writing requirements in courses at an early stage
• encouraging professional learning and the acquisition of disciplined ways of thinking and working through writing
• incorporating writing into teaching as a means of thinking and solving problems

This means that the Writing Centre's programme includes further training in university and written didactic approaches, which are currently gaining in importance at many German universities with the terms "writing in teaching" or "writing focused teaching".

The further training courses are recognised within the framework of the Saxon University Didactics Certificate Programme (HDS).

Would you like individual support in addition to our further training programme? We will be happy to advise you or work with you to develop formats tailored to your needs for academic writing in your department.

You can also get assistance from our writing tutors or key competence tutors, e.g. on:

• regular writing counselling for your students
• supervised writing groups for your students who are currently writing their Bachelor's, Master's or Diplom thesis.
