Girls' Maths Camp 2022
In the second week of the autumn holidays, from 23.10. - 28.10.2022, the East Saxon Maths and Computer Science Camp for Girls took place. Again this year, part of the funding could be provided from the equal opportunities funds of the area of mathematics and natural sciences. The camp was already fully booked in June. Nevertheless, five more places were confirmed for girls who had already attended the maths camp in previous years. A total of 55 schoolgirls from grades 7 to 12 from different parts of Saxony took part and travelled together to the KiEZ "Am Braunsteich" near Weißwasser. The girls came from Bautzen, Bischofswerda, Dresden, Freital, Großenhain, Kamenz, Riesa, Sebnitz and even two girls each from Chemnitz and Leipzig took part, although the camp was only advertised within eastern Saxony. Many girls were already attending the maths camp for the second time.
The mornings were organised in groups of 6 to 12 girls by student teachers and staff from the fields of mathematics and computer science. Topics were dealt with that go beyond the school subject matter and are intended to promote interest in mathematics and computer science. In all groups, the girls participated actively and showed perseverance, curiosity and a lot of joy in puzzling.
During the afternoons and evenings, workshops on informatics and mathematics topics were offered, as well as various leisure activities such as swimming in the adventure pool, sports activities on the grounds, karate, handicrafts, an evening with a MINT ambassador and a game with mathematical and informatics puzzle stations. As in the previous year, a special highlight was the science evening, where four participants presented their own lectures.
The participants and the counsellors thoroughly enjoyed the camp. Some of the girls have already registered for next year's camp.
