Equal Opportunities Funding
Members of the School of Science may apply for financial support for activities that serve to implement the equal opportunities mandate in the School. The objectives to be pursued with these funds as well as the necessary steps from the application to the statement of achievements can be found in the "Guidelines for Working with Equal Opportunities in the School of Science". Please use the appropriate forms in the current version (see below) for your application (including a data protection declaration) as well as for a final evaluation of the success of the activity! Please send the completed forms in electronically readable pdf-format by e-mail to the Equal Opportunities Officer of your faculties and in cc also to the Equal Opportunities Officer of the School of Science.
A total of 50,000 EUR will again be available in 2020. All applicants will be informed about the approval of the funds by the Equal Opportunities Officers of their faculties.

On November 23, 2020, the Equal Opportunity Officers of our five faculties decided in a video conference on a total of thirteen applications submitted in the last round of the 2020 funding allocation. Twelve applications were approved. One application from the Faculty of Psychology was not granted because there are other funding opportunities for the intended project, which, according to our guidelines, must always be used first before equal opportunity funds are given. In the 4th round of awards, a total of EUR 25,664 was committed.
Three applications were submitted by female applicants from the Faculty of Chemistry and Food Chemistry. Among them, a scholarship for 6 months was granted to a foreign female PhD student for the successful completion of experimental research work at the TU Dresden, which had been considerably delayed due to Corona-related restrictions. In addition, SHK funds were granted to carry out experimental work that could not be performed by a female PhD student due to pregnancy. A larger sum was awarded to a female junior scientist who, with her group, is preparing research-related teaching materials for secondary schools and the general public, demonstrating that chemistry is indeed a science in which women are successful and acting as role models for female school students who are just deciding on a course of study. A total of EUR 14,600 will go to this faculty.
At the request of a member of staff, EUR 700 will go to the Faculty of Mathematics to finance a workshop for those who wish to participate in a new consultation program for students of mathematics. In this, the colleagues want to take care of problems, worries or fears of a psycho-social nature and are prepared for this by the TU's Center for Professional Education.
Funds are going to the Faculty of Physics to two female doctoral students to partially fund travel expenses to international large-scale research facilities. SHK funds are also awarded to two applicants to transcribe audio recordings for research by a foreign doctoral student and to support a junior scientist in a research project evaluating physics teaching during the Corona pandemic. A fifth proposal was approved to fund online continuing education for a graduate student. A total of EUR 2,191 in funding was awarded to the Faculty of Physics.
In the Faculty of Psychology, SHK funds go to a female professor to compensate for above-average involvement in academic boards and to a junior scientist who needs support for research projects that could not be completed due to childcare during the Corona pandemic. The last approved application for SHK funds was submitted by an academic staff member who would like to work with an entire group to establish accessibility for visually impaired students in an e-learning module (cf. methpsy.elearning.psych.tu-dresden.de). A total of EUR 8,193 was awarded to the Faculty of Psychology.
Unfortunately, there were no applications from the Faculty of Biology in the 4th award round in 2020.
We firmly expect that a fund for equality funds will be available again in 2021. The next deadline for submitting applications for equality funds is February 15, 2021!
