Applying for equal opportunity funding
1. | Check, if the planned activity aligns with the goals for using equal opportunity funds as stated in the allocation guidelines. A look at the criteria we use, when allocating equal opportunity funds, might also be useful. The Equal Opportunity Officers of the faculties and the School of Science can help you with questions. |
2. | Fill in the application form in its current version electronically and read the privacy policy. For bigger activities an additional letter with a more detailed breakdown of the costs can be usefull. Then send all documents via email to the Equal Opportunity Officer of your faculty. |
3. | After the deadline all Equal Opportunity Officers decide jointly on the allocation of the equality funds. Afterwards, you will be informed by the Equal Opportunity Officer of your faculty. |
4. | Carry out your activity. We wish you good luck. |
5. | After the activity is finished, you first have to sellte the costs as usual with the university administration. Afterwards, fill in the final report and send it via email to the Equal Opportunity Officer of your faculty. |
Outcome of the latest allocation round
On May 22, 2023, the Equal Opportunity Officers of the five faculties and the School of Science deliberated on a total of 7 applications and a total funding amount of 3,940 EUR was approved. As always, it was thoroughly checked that the planned measures complied with our guidelines for the allocation of funds.
Two applications were received from the Faculty of Biology, both for conference trips. For one conference trip, a grant of 1,000 EUR from gender equality funds was approved. No funds could be approved for the other conference trip, because none of the equality goals of the School of Science were directly addressed here.
One application for a conference participation was submitted from the Faculty of Chemistry and Food Chemistry. This will be supported with 290 EUR.
One application for an anti-bias workshop was submited from the Faculty of Mathematics. For this 1,000 EUR were granted.
Two applications were received from the Faculty of Physics, one for a conference trip and one for the FLINTA* Physics Breakfast. A total of 700 EUR was granted for both applications.
One application for partial funding of a study by a female scientist on a gender equality topic was submitted from the Faculty of Psychology. A total of 950 EUR was granted for this.
There was no application from the School of Science this time.
Annual Report 2022
In 2022, a total of 24 applications for support from equality funds were submitted and a total funding amount of EUR 33,275 was approved. Below are a few key data on these 24 applications.
In contrast to the last two years, the number of applications with a reference to Covid has decreased significantly to only 17%. As before, however, applications for the support of an individual person represent the clear majority of 75%.
The funded measures can be roughly divided into the five groups "business trip", "networking event", "further training event", "extension of own position" and "SHK/WHK for research project". Here, the business trip is the most frequently funded measure, followed at a considerable distance by SHK/WHK funds.
If, on the other hand, we classify the measures according to which group of people they support, we see the five groups "university teachers," "postdocs," "doctoral students," "students," and "pupils. Postdocs were the most frequent applicants, closely followed by doctoral students.
Finally, we would like to take a look at which of the 10 equality goals from the equality concept of the School of Science were mentioned particularly often in applications. The graph shows the numbers based on the applications, where in some cases goals were referenced very generously. The most frequently mentioned goal is by far Goal 2, the promotion of the careers of female scientists. This is followed at a considerable distance by Goal 6 (reconciling family and career), Goal 4 (promoting underrepresented student groups), and Goal 1 (increasing the proportion of female scientists).
