Proceedings of the Writing Peer Tutor Conference published
The 12th Writing Peer Tutor Conference (SPTK) at the TU Dresden Writing Center (SZD) is already a little behind us, so we are all the more pleased to have now published the conference proceedings on the topic of "Key competencies and peer learning in writing center work". In addition to Lukas Schmitz' (former writing peer tutor at the SZD, now a doctoral student in the TUD's DIPCY project) editorial on the importance of key competencies in academic education, the anthology contains ten contributions in three categories that emerged from the conference's event formats:
- Under Writing in the Academic Context, the authors address the topics of motivation in writing processes, historical reading and excerpting techniques, and the role of writing centers in the distribution of university care work and how this relates to stereotypically male/female writing identities.
- In the chapter Practical considerations for writing center work, a matrix is first presented which writing centers can use to derive suitable measures to ensure the quality of their consultation services, depending on the personnel and financial resources available. Thematically closely linked, this is followed by contributions on consultation types parallel to the concept of writing types, on breaking through the rescuer-victim dynamic between SPT and those seeking advice and on the possibilities of using humor in a targeted manner in the context of writing consultation. The chapter concludes with practical tips for designing productive writing groups.
- Finally, under the heading of key competencies of writing peer tutors outside the consulting context, two articles focus on the competencies of event organization and advertising .
Sharon Király, former writing peer tutor and now a writing didactics consultant at the SZD, also deserves special thanks for her editorial support, editing and completion of the conference proceedings.
The conference proceedings are accessible via the website of the TU Dresden Writing Center: Tagungsband SPTK "Schlüsselkompetenzen und Peer-Learning in der Schreibzentrumsarbeit" and is also published as an online resource with DOI via the publication server Qucosa .
