Review of summer party and closing event of the Orientation Program
On 14 June, students of the Orientation Program met for the first OSM summer party in the newly designed courtyard of the Fritz-Foerster-Bau. The food brought along was as diverse as the participants of the Orientation Program: Among other things, there were Persian dishes, Bavarian specialties and delicious chocolate cake. After the meal, people chatted, laughed and danced.
At the closing event on 14 July, the students were not only able to look back on the experiences they gained in the OSM, but also improve their time management skills.
In a reflection workshop, the students first described how they experienced the summer semester, what they took away for their future paths in life, and what additional formats they could imagine. For example, students would have liked more support in creating their schedule. This feedback was immediately taken up by the OSM team; in the next round of the Orientation Program, there will be counseling and support offers for the construction of the timetable at the beginning of the semester.
After the participants had answered the OSM's final questionnaire, a workshop on "self-organization in studies" was on the agenda. The format was led by Kristin Jäckel, an employee of TU Dresden's Center for Key Competencies.
At the end of the event, the students received their OSM certificates.
Feedback on the Orientation Program was very positive. One student said that it is worthwhile to take part in the Orientation Program because "with the help of the various lectures offered, you get a better idea of your future study program and of life as a student." One participant had not yet made her final study decision, but "was able to find out what she would rather not study by attending some of the lectures."
The following testimonials offer further insights:
"I improved my German language skills and oral expression skills, and gained an overview of the content of my desired study program."
"The OSM program really helped me a lot and was an amazing experience."
