General information about the degree program
Economic topics are important across all sectors, whether in companies, administration or education. The Bachelor's degree program in Business Education and Management Training teaches you how to convey this content to different target groups in a sustainable way. In this interdisciplinary program, you will study business, education and educational science as well as (learning) psychology. The aim of the program is to enable you to identify economic and educational problems, analyze them scientifically and develop solution approaches.
There are two different tracks available: While Study Track I has a stronger focus on economics, Study Track II offers you the opportunity to specialize in one of the following general education subjects (=qualifying subjects): German, English, ethics/philosophy, French, history, computer science and mathematics. Study Track II prepares you for a future teaching career, e.g. at vocational schools.
Both tracks result in the academic degree “Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)”. The standard period of study is six semesters, although part-time study is also possible in Study Track I. The total workload adds up to 180 credit points, which are acquired through modular, in-course examinations.
Study contents
The Bachelor's degree program in Business Education and Management Training consists of the compulsory area of Economics, which provides you with a broad basic knowledge of the various sub-disciplines of the subject, the elective area of Economics, which then builds on this and offers a wide range of specialization options, and the Bachelor's thesis. Study track II also includes the qualification area; in this case, the economics area will be less extensive overall.
In the Compulsory Area Business and Economics (105 credit points in Study Track I and 90 - 110 credit points in Study Track II), you will acquire basic knowledge in business administration, economics, business informatics, business education as well as mathematics, statistics and law in the first four semesters.
The Elective Area Business and Economics (65 credit points in Study Track I, 30 credit points in Study Track II) starts in the fourth semester. It covers the fields of economics and business education and offers you excellent opportunities to customize your studies according to your own interests. You can choose from a broad range of modules in business education as well as business administration and economics, which you can combine with great flexibility. Economic profiles allow you to focus on key areas such as marketing, human resources management, finance and controlling. You can also prioritize topics such as business formation, management of goods and information flows, international economic policy and economic-ecological challenges. Within Study Track I, you can also gain insights into other related disciplines (e.g. foreign languages, econometrics or transport economics) in the area of supplementary qualifications.
Visit the website Elective Area Business and Economics to find out more about its structure, your options and the specific content of the profiles!
Study Track II additionally covers a qualification track with the content of the general education specialization (30 - 50 credit points depending on the specialization chosen).
In the Bachelor's Thesis (10 credit points), which is typically written at the end of the program in the sixth semester, you will work on a business education related research question using scientific methods. The thesis takes 9 weeks to complete.
Particularities
Quantitative methods such as mathematics and statistics play a major role in economics. A profound knowledge of mathematics is therefore a great advantage for successfully completing degree courses, although you can also acquire this knowledge during your studies. However, you should at least be prepared to become familiar with quantitative methods. In business education, qualitative methods also play a significant role. These are used, for example, to investigate people's attitudes, opinions or knowledge on a wide range of topics. You will learn how to implement these methods as part of your studies.
An increasingly large proportion of the academic literature that you will deal with during your studies is written in English. Being able to read and understand these texts is an important prerequisite for your success during your studies and beyond. You should therefore have a solid knowledge of English, which you can of course improve further during your studies.
