Notes on the application process
The required language skills apply regardless of the choice of subject. Certain subjects may have their own discipline-specific admission requirements.
For applications for joint degree programs where at least one subject has restricted admission requirements, the application deadline for restricted admission degree programs applies.

General information about the degree program
In this degree program, two majors from the fields of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences are combined with each other (80 credit points for the 1st major, 70 credit points for the 2nd major).
The objective is for students to acquire qualifying academic expertise in the two humanities, cultural and social sciences subjects chosen as majors. Students will also gain theoretical knowledge and application-orientated skills, enabling them to:
— Think, work and communicate in interdisciplinary contexts
— Complete academic work independently
— Categorize academic problem areas with expertise
— Develop problem-solving strategies with real-life application
— Depending on the focus of the students’ chosen majors: Analyze texts, images, graphics and other cultural artifacts, communication processes, political, cultural and societal structures and conflicts, religious, political, artistic and cultural phenomenon, media, public and private ways of life and social structures from an academic perspective.
This degree program offers students a breadth of professional qualifications in line with their individual combination of subjects, while also serving as the basis for a Master’s degree program in the two major subjects.
Study contents
The Bachelor’s degree program in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences comprises the scientific fundamentals, research perspectives and methods of each chosen major subject. Alongside overarching scientific, epistemological, methodological and argumentative foundations, this degree program addresses the questions and content of history, social studies, art, cultural studies, media studies, political science, theology and philosophy in particular. These can also be expanded on with concentrations in language, literature and cultural studies depending on the 2nd major chosen.
Students’ knowledge in their two major subjects will be successively deepened throughout the degree program, from introductory modules at the beginning to in-depth and specialized modules at the end of the program. In addition to the major subjects, the General Qualifications (AQua) area offers students the opportunity to complete internships and study a wide selection of language courses, additional qualifications, and courses from other subject areas. The fifth semester is particularly suited to a stay abroad. We have a multitude of contacts with partner universities for this purpose.
