Preventative fire protection
- Holding of fire drills
- Training on how to handle handheld fire extinguishers, fire extinguishing drills
- Joint drills with the Brand- und Katastrophenschutzamt Dresden (Fire and Disaster Protection Office Dresden)
- Tactical and operational studies
- On-sight inspections with the Federal Insurance Fund for Salaried Employees in TU Dresden buildings to remove fire hazards and minimize fire loads
- Maintenance and inspection of hydrants
- Regular inspections of standpipes for operational readiness
- Fire guards e.g. during welding work
- Fire safeguards for events
- Annual fire safety education in kindergarten
Defensive fire protection
- Extinguishing of small outdoor fires
- Briefing of the professional fire department and rescue forces based on special knowledge of the local conditions
- Water supply
- Performing first aid (if necessary)
Technical assistance
- Repair or containment of damage in the event of accidents caused by exhaust systems and tree removal, for example
- Safeguarding hazardous areas, e.g. by providing lighting
- Providing support during maintenance work, e.g. by providing an emergency power supply
Disaster prevention
- Reconnaissance
- Short-term operational announcements in the core area (megaphone)
- Safeguarding of hazardous zones
- Repair of damages, recovery of goods and safeguarding of buildings during natural disasters such as flooding (numerous operations in 2002 and 2013) and storms
- Driving services (e.g. for the crisis unit), transportation
- Performing first aid (all members are trained in first aid)
Operation reports
After deployment, the group leader must fill out a deployment report and send it to the head of the fire department.
