Stakeholders in sustainability at TU Dresden
The Environment Commission was established at TU Dresden in 1991. It comprises members from Faculties, representatives from administrative areas, student representatives and external representatives who provide ideas and inspiration for university management with regard to the environment in the area of research and teaching.
The Head Office of the Environment Commission provides operational support to the Chairperson of the Environment Commission by managing, preparing and following up on meetings and is responsible for reviewing the ecological sustainability budget, monitoring projects and coordinating the implementation of the ecological sustainability goals and measures (status reports, financial needs). It also coordinates the administration of the PRISMA – Center for Sustainability Assessment and Policy at TU Dresden, which is part of Directorate 9 – University Culture, Unit 9.1 Campus Life, subordinate to the Environment Commission.
The Green Office is also part of Directorate 9 – University Culture, Unit 9.1 Campus Life and is responsible for the operative implementation of ecological sustainability at TU Dresden. The Green Office advances the entrenchment of ecological sustainability in all organizational units and processes at TU Dresden, connects stakeholders at TUD who are involved in environmental and climate protection, and promotes their projects. Its team coordinates, organizes and evaluates regular events (e.g. workshops, seminars), networking events and environmental education courses, and plays a part in imparting general awareness of ecological sustainability at TU Dresden and beyond. The Green Office also takes on PR work in the area of ecological sustainability (e.g. on the website and social media channels).
The Environmental Management Officer and Head of Unit 4.4 – Infrastructural Facility Management in Directorate Facility Management is responsible for implementing the environmental management system pursuant to (EMAS). The environmental coordination team supports the Environmental Management Officer and is structurally integrated in the Environmental Protection Group. This team is responsible for planning and coordinating internal environmental operations audits, updating environmental management documentation and issuing the environmental program and the environmental declaration. The Eco-Audit Group supports environmental management. It also approves and completes the necessary tasks within environmental management.
The Ecological Sustainability Team is a group comprising the core Green Office team, the Head Office of the Environmental Commission and the Coordination Office Sustainable Campus. The core team is bolstered by the Head of University Culture, the Chairperson of the Environment Commission and the Environmental Management Officer. It serves as a platform for discussing topics of ecological sustainability as well as for information, communication and voting on pending topics and decisions.
The student TU Environmental Initiative (tuuwi) provides information about environmental protection at TU Dresden to the student body and incorporates them into its work. tuuwi organizes the environmental education lecture series and conducts projects on various topics related to the environment at TU Dresden. The initiative also works collaborates with the Environmental Coordination Team to organize information events.
