Development of a green campus
Table of contents
Preserving biodiversity is an integral part of developing a sustainable campus that is geared towards the future. We have already implemented a number of biodiversity initiatives to improve conditions for animals and plants. Anyone who would like to get involved is most welcome to join us.
Tree sponsorship initiative
The campus landscape is enriched by many trees which vary in species and age. The campus is home to about 80 different species of tree. These have significant historical and ecological value and as precious assets deserve to be protected.
Various construction measures, renovation work and traffic safety measures have repeatedly led to a loss of trees. With the launch of the adopt-a-tree initiative in 2018, sponsors have been recruited for the planting of new trees. Numerous adopted trees have helped maintain a diverse and vibrant campus.
If you would like to support this project or sponsor a tree yourself, you will find more information on the campus tree and tree watering sponsorships page.
Campus bees
At the meadow orchard by Directorate Facility Management at Bergstrasse 69, employees and volunteers who are interested in beekeeping look after several bee colonies.
If you are interested in bees, beekeeping or honey harvesting, feel free to contact the Environmental Protection Group to assist the team with their weekly inspection work and honey harvesting.
Discover the biodiversity of the campus
You can use this online template to report your sightings of animal and plant species on campus. Please include a photo, information on the location and the time of the sighting. Your sightings will be reviewed and published on our biodiversity web pages.
