Tips for conserving energy in Laboratories
Due to their consumption of resources, labs are among the facilities with a high savings potential. Be the first to start conserving energy. THANK YOU FOR DOING YOUR PART!
Lights on?
Switch off the light when you leave the room or when daylight is sufficient.
Fridges and freezers
- Check whether an increase in the freezer temperature from -80°C to -70°C or from -20°C to -18°C would be acceptable for your samples. In most cases, this should be no problem.
- Remove unnecessary samples from refrigerators and freezers and defrost them regularly.
- If available, take the drawers out of the refrigerator/freezer when you are looking for something and do not leave the doors open for too long.
Safety cabinets
On safety cabinets, close the panes when you have finished your work or no one needs the equipment immediately after you.
Autoclaves
Only autoclave items when necessary and do not run the autoclave if it is half-full.
Save electricity
Switch devices such as centrifuges, hot plates, PCR devices, autoclaves etc. to stand-by mode or off when you have finished your work or no one is using the devices directly after you.
Agree on times
Use a calendar or other booking systems for device usage.
Our tip
Label our devices with Switch off stickers. You can order them from the Environmental Coordinator.
