10th anniversary of DRESDEN-concept – The unique research alliance celebrates a milestone birthday
When the DRESDEN-concept (DDc) research alliance was founded in August 2010 by 15 Dresden-based research and cultural institutions, no one would have predicted how successful this alliance would turn out to be: the mutual exchange of information and cooperation between the partner institutions intensified, infrastructures were shared and an ever-increasing number of joint research projects were implemented. Over the years, this resulted in a steep rise of joint publications and third-party funding as well as an expansion of the degree programmes offered. As a consequence, the attractiveness of Dresden as a prime research hub increased, particularly for international scientists. In TU Dresden’s bid for the title of ‘University of Excellence’, this unique networking across institutional boundaries was specifically appreciated by the international reviewers. Therefore, DDc contributed substantially to TU Dresden’s success in maintaining the excellence status.
Today, 10 years after it was established, the alliance of now 32 partners encompasses virtually all of Dresden’s important scientific and cultural institutions. Their unique cooperation is a blueprint for scientific cooperation in Germany and beyond.
It is with deep regret that DRESDEN-concept has to announce that the originally planned public anniversary event with numerous contributions by the partner institutions cannot be held due to the corona pandemic. Both looking back as well as into the future and supported by moving pictures and discussions, the alliance is now celebrating its 10th anniversary in a small, closed event on 10th October in the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden.
What is DRESDEN-concept?
DRESDEN-concept is an alliance that unites 32 Dresden-based research and cultural institutions. Scientists cooperate interdisciplinarily on common research topics and across institutional boundaries. They benefit from the vicinity of the partners, the close coordination and joint applications for research projects, and the shared used of existing infrastructures. The tightly-knit, trustful and interdisciplinary collaboration between the DDc partners is a decisive factor for the excellence of the Dresden scientific landscape. Furthermore, DRESDEN-concept is a driving motor for the rapid development of Technische Universität Dresden. TU Dresden is one of the eleven German Universities of Excellence and among the 100 most innovative universities worldwide. In the work groups and committees of DRESDEN-concept, researchers develop visions and strategies, which are then implemented for the entire science location. The scientists meet in the Scientific Area Networks in order to exchange ideas and plan novel joint projects.
