Climate change and university alliances: EUTOPIA Day brings together sustainability actors for Europe-wide projects
The first EUTOPA Day will take place on May 13 at the 10 partner universities of the EUTOPIA University Alliance. Under the theme "Climate Change", sustainability experts and EUTOPIA members will come together in various workshops, lectures and online events. In its first edition, this annual event aims to promote dialog and action on pressing global challenges, with a special focus on sustainability and climate change. Each university will organize campus activities, while a central event with Rectors, Vice-Rectors and experts will take place in the afternoon.
A discussion on "Challenges for climate change and sustainability: What can the EUTOPIA Alliance contribute to solving global and local climate problems?" will bring together local student initiatives and subject matter experts at TU Dresden. The aim is to bring together and promote effective initiatives, develop new ideas and expand the community of passionate people who are committed to climate protection.
After the discussion, all EUTOPIA partners will come together in an online session where experts will discuss sustainability and climate change issues. From Dresden, Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger and Prof. Edeltraut Günther, Director at the Institute for Integrated Material Flow and Resource Management at the United Nations University (UNU-FLORES), will take part in the online debate.

Since 2019, EUTOPIA has been part of the current 44 European University Alliances. Guided by shared values such as integrity, academic freedom and responsibility towards the international community and our planet, EUTOPIA sees itself as a European-based and globally minded community of ten like-minded universities: Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, Ca' Foscari University of Venice, CY Cergy Paris Université, Dresden University of Technology, University of Gothenburg, University of Ljubljana, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, University of Warwick and Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
Participants in the EUTOPIA Day include faculty, students, support staff and experts in various fields related to sustainability and climate change. This trans-national multi-campus event is envisioned as a platform for collaboration to co-create solutions that drive positive change. With a commitment to rotating themes annually, the event promises to remain involved and relevant, tackling a diverse range of pressing issues and fostering connections toward a more sustainable future.
