Covid-19: What are the social consequences of the lockdown?
Psychologists from TU Dresden investigate the effects of contact restrictions and the use of alcohol during a crisis in two studies
In order to stop the rapid global spread of Covid-19, there was an unprecedented lockdown in almost all of Europe from mid-March onwards. While the acute pandemic wave has abated, the focus is now on cushioning the economic effects and on examining the social consequences.
At the TU Dresden Institute for Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy two studies are to be conducted to get to the bottom of the stresses associated with the current situation.
Philipp Kanske, Professor of Clinical Psychology and Behavioural Neuroscience, aims to explore what effects the severely restricted social contacts have on mental health. What were and are the particular difficulties? How has the stress developed over time?
In order to not only analyse the problems, but to also create appropriate support services, the survey is to be repeated weekly.
In the second study, Prof. Jürgen Rehm with a team from EU countries will investigate whether and how alcohol consumption has changed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
For both studies, the Institute of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy is looking for a large number of participants in order to improve research on stress in crisis situations.
