Applications approved: DFG to fund three Collaborative Research Centres at TU Dresden
The German Research Foundation (DFG) has announced that it will fund three Collaborative Research Centres (CRCs) at TU Dresden. New CRCs will be established in the fields of joining technology as well as in medicine. In addition, the CRC on the thermo-energetic design of machine tools was granted renewed funding after re-applying. This brings the total number of CRCs at TU Dresden to 13.
Collaborative Research Centres are interdisciplinary research programmes that are funded by the DFG for up to twelve years. They enable innovative, challenging and long-term research projects to be carried out.
Joining techniques are to become more sustainable: New Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio 285 "Development of a Method for Mechanical Joining in Versatile Process Chains"
Mechanical joining of components is one of the oldest and most important joining techniques in manufacturing technology. Until now, any minimal change in a joining process required the entire complex process to be adjusted or redesigned. The new CRC wants to tackle this issue by developing a new set of methods for manufacturing technology. Using these methods, mechanical joining processes will become flexible and it will be possible to modify them quickly and effectively in order to meet new requirements, in turn saving material and energy.
New Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio 265 “Losing and Regaining Control over Drug Intake: From Trajectories to Mechanisms to Interventions”
Alcohol and tobacco consumption are the main risk factors for death and disease worldwide. Since even moderate consumption causes major health and societal problems, the focus of the research centre is on the group of people who consume drugs in moderate quantities, a group that was previously neglected in research. Scientists from the Charité Berlin, TU Dresden and the University of Heidelberg are working together in this CRC.
Continuation of Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio 96 "Thermo-Energetic Design of Machine Tools" – 3rd funding phase
The CRC/TR 96 examines how the deformation of machine tools due to temperature influences can be more effectively controlled and how the resulting dimensional and form deviations in components can be reduced. The DFG is providing approximately 10 million euros over a four-year period starting in July 2019. http://transregio96.de
