ECEMP International Graduate School Founded
Dresden has always been a well established location in
materials science and is at the leading edge of international
research in this field. As a result of its state-of-the-art
science and technology "ECEMP - European Centre for Emerging
Materials and Processes Dresden" was founded in 2007. Shortly
after, ECEMP won the excellence initiative of the Free State of
Saxony and became a cluster of excellence. To offer ambitious
graduates outstanding opportunities at scientifically advanced
level now ECEMP International Graduate School is founded. Start
for the programs will be winter semester 2009/2010. First
application deadline is September 30th 2009. Further deadlines
will be announced.
With nearly 40 professorships of the TU Dresden, the HTW
Dresden and the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, the cluster of
excellence offers an extensive range of multidisciplinary
research. Some of the TU Dresden professors are directors of
non-university research institutes. Therfore, several
institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the
Leibniz-Gemeinschaft and the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft also
participate in the cluster. Based on the sub projects of ECEMP,
ECEMP International Graduate School offers PhD programs in the
three interdisciplinary fields Material Modelling, Materials
for Energy Storage and Conversion, Materials for Lightweight
Structures.
All along the scientific program, PhD students are supported by experienced supervisors. Furthermore, ECEMP International Graduate School offers to its participants within the graduate school program a comprehensive overview of multicomponent materials with an extended range of application for energy management, environmental engineering and lightweight design. In addition to their scientific work the PhD students obtain a special formation program which includes courses in team spirit and communication skills, presentation techniques, project management and problem solving skills as well as German language courses for foreign students.
ECEMP - From Atoms to Complex Devices
The "ECEMP - European Centre for Emerging Materials and Processes Dresden" is a cluster of excellence of the TU Dresden. Science is focused on development of multicomponent materials and their associated technologies for energy management, environmental engineering and lightweight construction. In total 37 professorships of the TU Dresden, the HTW Dresden and the TU Bergakademie Freiberg are participating in the 14 subprojects of ECEMP.
