Invitation to the 2021 Summer School ”Mobility in Transition“
On July 20 and 21, 2021, the Boysen-TU Dresden Graduate School invites you to the first virtual summer school "Mobility in Transition". Governments in many countries around the world are deconstructing traditional car-friendly structures and are increasingly supporting sustainable modes of transportation, such as bicycles and public transportation. The two-day, English-language program "Mobility in transformation" is designed for Master's students, PhD students and young professionals. It aims to create an interdisciplinary understanding of the complex mobility system through an exploration of new technologies and their impact on society.
The Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group is an interdisciplinary research and doctoral program that enables early-career scientists to research a wide range of issues related to energy, sustainability and mobility. The third generation of the Research Training Group is composed of 18 predominantly international scholarship holders from various academic disciplines from all five Schools of TU Dresden. Under the leadership of the managing director Dr. Anna Martius and the speakers Prof. Antonio Hurtado and Prof. Lutz Hagen, the third generation of the Research Training Group will organize the first summer school entitled "Mobility in Transition" in 2021. The two-day online event will also strengthen cooperation with DRESDEN-concept partners such as the Leibniz Institute for Ecological and Regional Development (IÖR) and UNU-FLORES (United Nations University, Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and Resources) e.g. in a jointly organized panel discussion on "International resource policy for the mobility transition".
Transport systems are characterized by the interaction of men and technology. Based on this, the event will highlight five interconnected elements: "Policy and Governance", "Technology and Infrastructure", "Markets", "Culture", and "Mobility Patterns". The following issues will be addressed during the summer school: What are the challenges and consequences of the mobility transition? Which technologies and innovations are being envisaged? What are the international political and societal solutions?
The objective of the summer school is to provide participants with the knowledge to understand the multiple contexts of the change in transportation as well as insights into the mutually empowering developments.
On July 20 and 21, renowned national and international experts will discuss and present these topics.
"The Summer School on Mobility in Transition recognizes the fact that the mobility of people and goods must undergo fundamental and long-term change. We provide participants with an interdisciplinary understanding of the complex topic of transportation systems and the associated economic and socio-cultural impacts. Due to the unprecedented circumstances, the summer school will be held online and will be free of charge meaning that this year it will be accessible to everyone worldwide from the comfort of their own homes," said Dr. Martius, executive director of the Boysen-TU Dresden Graduate School, promoting the event.
Registration for all or individual events of the summer school is possible until July 16, 2021 at https://tud.link/ub4h.
