Winners announced of the 9th state competition "Economy, Technology and Household/Social Affairs" in Saxony
The winners of five regional competitions for high school students held in Saxony met at Dresden University of Technology (TUD) on May 10, 2023, to compete in the 9th Saxon state competition "Economy, Technology and Household/Social Affairs" (WTH/S).
The participants’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills were put to the test as they were challenged to make an insect hotel and vegan honey. Alongside specialist knowledge and expertise, the competitors were judged on their creativity, the quality of their final product, occupational safety and the tidiness of their workspaces. The task, product idea, planning and execution of the competition were all devised by future teachers of WTH/S in high schools.
The award ceremony took place directly on May 10, with the awards presented by representatives of the Saxon State Ministry for Arts, the Dresden Chamber of Trades and Crafts, and the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
The jury awarded first place to Jonas Mioska from the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule Liebertwolkwitz – Secondary School for Liepzig. Colin Kurschus from Schule am Thümmlitzwald – Secondary School for Leipzig, won second place. Finn Mende from the Oberschule Rödertal (in Großröhrsdorf) was came in third.
This state competition is made possible thanks to the dedication of those involved in teacher education for the subject of Economy, Technology and Household/Social Affairs at Dresden University of Technology, WTH/TC advisors, and volunteer helpers.
The competition is supported by the Saxon State Ministry for the Arts and is a collaboration between the education sector, regional trade work and industry. In this way, the competition also makes an crucial contribution to recruiting young talent for industry and specialist trades.
