Helping other students on their path to success: “At work with...” Tutor Leonie Toppel
Tutors lead practicals at the university that, for example, reinforce lecture content and help students prepare for exams. The tutors are usually students themselves – just at a more advanced stage of their studies. As is Leonie. She studies Civil Engineering and leads practicals in architectural drafting. This allows her to help other students master ALLPLAN, a program used to create architectural drafts.
In this week's “At work with...” TU Dresden’s Social Media Team met Leonie at the canteen and accompanied her to her tutorial. In the video, Leonie Toppel explains how she started tutoring, how she prepares for the practicals, and the challenges that come with the job.
It isn't always easy to keep up with her own studies and teach at the same time, she says. But she enjoys her work as a tutor because it allows her to provide future engineers with important knowledge. Not everything always goes according to plan during practicals: Sometimes the technology refuses to work, sometimes a student just doesn't get it. But she would still recommend working as a tutor to anyone - not least because there are numerous opportunities for tutors at TU Dresden to gain additional qualifications and expand their teaching skills. With TUTORING hybrid, TUD offers a comprehensive program that supports tutors - from professional qualification to valuable practical tips for everyday tutoring.
In the video series "At work with..." the social media team of TU Dresden accompanies employees of TU Dresden or its partner institutions for the day. The videos provide insight into the diverse areas of work and responsibilities at TU Dresden. We want to show the people behind everything that makes us special and who do their jobs with passion and dedication! You can find more videos on our YouTube channels “TU Dresden entdecken” (“Discover TU Dresden”) and “TU Dresden probieren” (“Try TU Dresden”)
