Semester start in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic: Ceremonial enrollment on October 22 via livestream, digital introductory week for “freshmen”
So far, over 7,200 new students from 95 countries have enrolled at TU Dresden for the 2020/2021 winter semester. This means that the number has slightly decreased compared to last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, due to the ongoing enrollment process and the extended application deadline of October 31 for the undergraduate programs, an increase in the number of applications is expected. The final number will most likely be announced on December 1.
The main reason for the decline is the lack of first-year students from abroad. Due to the confusing, world-wide situation, many have chosen to stay in their own country. The situation is different for international students who have already started their studies at TUD. They are continuing their studies in most cases, either digitally or on site.
In order to help “freshmen” to a successful start despite the imposed conditions, there are a number of support offers. The first semester events of the Faculties and Central Academic Units, which are mainly offered digitally, provide the most important information about the course of studies as well as its organization. In addition, the students who are active in the individual student faculties organize tours of the campus and assist with putting together timetables.
To know where to go on the large university campus, the “Campus Navigator” is available as an app and on the internet. Pocket-sizes folding maps for the main campus are also available at the TUD Information or the SCS Service Point in the SLUB.
On October 22, starting at 1:00 pm, many service facilities will be available on the virtual information market to answer any questions about your studies. Afterwards, TU Dresden will invite all “freshmen” to the ceremonial enrollment starting at 4:00 pm - this year as a live stream. Even though the induction of new students as members of TUD has to take place online this year, A varied program awaits them so that they can get to know TUD and some of the important faces.
