The cfaed will have a further top-class guest in its
„Distinguished Lecture Series“. After the French Physics Nobel
Laureate, Serge Haroche, in April, the president and
vice-chancellor of the British University of Surrey, Professor
Sir Christopher Snowden, will give a talk on november 28 at
10.15am (Festsaal Dülferstraße). His subject is „The Electronic
Adventure – Engineering a Better Future”. Sir Christopher’s
presentation will start by examining the background and
achievements of some of the major breakthroughs in electronics
and then take a look into the potential technology of the
future. This will involve a quick tour of the history of
electronics, highlighting its central role in manned space
exploration, the key role in mobile communications and
computing as well as the wider and pervasive nature of modern
electronic technology. The talk will conclude by giving some
insight into some of the more recent exciting discoveries in
the areas of materials, nanotechnology, graphene and their
potential for use in new areas such as renewable energy and
medicine. Sir Christopher Snowdon is a distinguished engineer
with wide experience of the international microwave and
semiconductor industry. He is President and Vice-Chancellor of
