TU Dresden again records increased enrollment of international students in the 2022/23 winter semester
As of October 6, 2022, more than 6,000 new students from 92 nations have been enrolled at TU Dresden for the 2022/23 winter semester. The final count will be confirmed on November 1, since enrollment is still open until October 31.
This means that the number of international students at TU Dresden has increased once again this winter semester. 1,236 first-semester students come from abroad. The International Institute (IHI) Zittau, a part of TU Dresden, has reported a particularly high percentage of new international students. Of the 95 new enrollments, 65 students come from countries other than Germany.
And of the student body as a whole, 5,969 international students are now enrolled at TUD. This translates to a considerable share of 18.9%, with most international students by far coming from India and China, followed by Italy and Ukraine.
There are many support services available to all first-semester students to ensure a smooth start at TU Dresden. The first-semester programs of the Faculties and the Central Academic Units offer key information on the course and organization of studies. Additionally, students involved in the individual Faculty Student Councils lead campus tours and help with class schedule organization.
In addition, on October 6 from 1:00 pm, many service points will be represented at the info market in the Auditorium Center to answer questions about starting a degree program. Subsequently, the welcome ceremony will begin at 4:00 pm, which will also be streamed live on YouTube at https://youtu.be/pPOjlcFHBeg.
Prof. Michael Kobel, Vice Rector Academic Affairs at TU Dresden, thanks all those who have helped first-semester students start their studies on the right foot and looks forward to a campus that is buzzing with life. Despite renewed challenges arising from the current situation on the energy markets and Covid infection rates, he stresses, “Our top priority is to maintain teaching and research to the greatest extent possible and ensure on-site teaching. TU Dresden’s University Executive Board does not currently plan to move teaching back to an online setting as things stand. At the same time, digital teaching methods that have proved useful and taken root during the pandemic may still be offered and implemented. This could benefit students in particular whose temporarily prevailing living situations make it impossible for them to attend class on campus, be this due to familial duties or visa issues.”
Moreover, we at TU Dresden believe that more energy can be conserved when students attend courses together on campus. Overall energy consumption would rise considerably if students all sat at their own computers at home to attend online lectures, seminars and practical courses.
