Taicang High-Tech Park donates 10,000 respiratory protective masks to TU Dresden
The "Taicang High-Tech Park" near Shanghai (China) is donating 10,000 urgently needed respiratory protective masks to TU Dresden and its Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital.
"We are extremely grateful for this gesture of friendship and this strong signal of international solidarity and I am personally deeply touched", says Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen, Rector of TU Dresden. "In times of need, such a humanitarian gesture has a significance that goes far beyond its mere material value."
The donation of the Taicang High-Tech Park came about through the arrangement of the TUD spin-off SIXONIA tech GmbH, which operates under the umbrella of TUDAG TU Dresden Aktiengesellschaft. The Taicang High-Tech Park has had close ties to Germany for decades, and numerous German companies have settled there. In autumn 2019, a TU Dresden delegation headed by the Rector travelled to Shanghai, where initial contacts were made with Taicang High-Tech Park, which were expanded during a return visit to Dresden at the beginning of this year. TU Dresden is already well connected in the region due to cooperation with the Shanghai universities Jiao Tong University and Tongji University.
TU Dresden would like to provide a part of the donated respiratory protective masks not only to the University Hospital but also to the Municipal Hospital of Dresden. Furthermore, another hopeful signal: Dr. Kangkai Ma and Prof. Dr. Xinliang Feng from the SIXONIA tech company announced that they and their contacts in China would be happy to organise further donations if the city of Dresden is in need of protective gear. There are already plans for 20,000 additional respiratory protection masks.
