The Vice-Rector Academic Affairs asks the Faculties and Academic Units that host degree programs to nominate their top graduates for special honors. The members of the Standing Committee of the Senate for Teaching and the TU Dresden Senators then draft a resolution regarding the nominations in their sessions.

The following honours are awarded to the best graduates at Dresden University of Technology:

• Lohrmann Medal: Each Faculty may nominate one graduate to receive the Lohrmann Medal. In addition, the Student Council may submit a nomination.
• Tschirnhaus Certificate: The Ehrenfried Walter von Tschirnhaus Certificate honors the top graduates from the School of Science.
• Klemperer Certificate: The Victor Klemperer Certificate honors the top graduates from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
• Certificate from the School of Engineering Sciences
• Carus Certificate: The Carl Gustav Carus Certificate honors the top graduates from the School of Medicine.
