New seminar offers structured preparation for international mobility
After almost three years of the pandemic, it is now easier to study abroad again as part of a teacher training course. In order to support those interested in planning and structuring a stay abroad, a preparatory seminar for student teachers was held for the first time in the winter semester 2022/23. The seminar, led by Prof. Axel Gehrmann and Dr. Yi Li, aimed to create both the organizational and content-related prerequisites for successful student mobility.
In the first part of the seminar, the participants received comprehensive organizational planning assistance for their stay abroad. Among other things, they were made aware of time, financial and administrative aspects. In preparation for their educational studies, the students were introduced to the school education systems of selected countries (Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Israel, Japan, South Africa and the USA). In working groups, they discussed school and teacher education and compared organizational structures, institutional contexts and teaching-learning cultures in the target countries. In the third part of the seminar - "Society, teaching and school in literature" - the participants designed individual posters and presented books they had chosen themselves about a country of their choice. This allowed the students to reflect on their knowledge and understanding of education and culture in a different context. Through this combination of different teaching-learning activities, the participants not only strengthened their organizational, communication and teamwork skills, but also acquired media and technology skills.
Due to the positive feedback and the steadily growing number of international cooperation partners, the seminar will be offered again in the summer semester 2023. Further information on this and other courses with an international focus can be found here.
