Bridge building excursion 2009 - Austria/Slovakia
The annual excursion as part of the lecture Massive Bridges led via the Czech Republic to Austria in 2009. The excursion was organized together with the students and partly sponsored by the DAAD.
Via Prague, Brno and Bratislava, the trip went to Vienna, where a visit to the Institute of Structural Engineering under the direction of Prof. Johann Kollegger of the Vienna University of Technology was also on the program. The trips were planned in such a way that as many bridges and other construction sites as possible could be visited without major detours.
In Amstetten, the DOKA Infocenter was visited and a small formwork construction course was attended. Then the tour continued towards Linz, where the well-known Austrian bridge engineer Erhard Kargel willingly answered the curious questions of the students and gave an insight into his everyday engineering life. Before heading back to Germany, Mr. Kargel gave an interesting tour of his award-winning pedestrian bridge in Wernstein.
The return journey to Dresden led via Munich and numerous bridges on the new Ebensfeld-Erfurt-Halle/Leipzig line of Deutsche Bahn. A total distance of 2000 km was covered in borrowed minibuses driven by students. Overnight stays were at campsites.
