Transfer from the real-world lab - How the city of Dresden and the University School are developing all-day schooling
All-day care is coming! From 2026, primary school children all over Germany will have a legal entitlement to all-day education and care on site. This poses challenges for many local authorities, including in the new federal states. The team from REAB - Regional Development Agency for Local Education Management in Central Germany visited Saxony for its video podcast "Hauptsache Bildung" to show Dresden University School as an example of best practice. The talk gives an insight of how other school authorities can also implement all-day learning with a tandem of teachers and educators.

In an interview, Maxi Heß, Head of the University School, and Sabine Grohmann, Head of Strategic Management at the City of Dresden's daycare facilities, explain the joint approaches they have found for the public school trial, which is unique in Germany. They also address how the findings from the real-world laboratory are already being transferred to other municipal project schools.
The Dresden University School is a public community school for soon 1,000 children and young people. In addition to a learning culture of the future, the school also operates a tied all-day program and educators work in tandem with teachers. This is made possible through close cooperation with the city of Dresden.
The full interview can be found on the Youtube channel Bildungslandschaft Mitteldeutschland.
In the current issue "Ganztag als kommunale Aufgabe" of the magazine "Hauptsache Bildung", REAB has prepared information and examples on the topic for the municipal administration.
On the REAB topic page "all-day in schools" you can find the above mentioned video podcast, but also further interviews, articles and presentations on the local perspective on all-day schools.
