Credits
Scope
The modular BA course at the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies consists of two main subjects and the practical transferable skills component (AQUA). The total for the degree, for all three components over six semesters, is 180 credits (CP or LP) according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The credits measure the actual student workload (university presence, preparation and follow-up time) per seminar or per course of study. An ECTS point thus corresponds to about 30 hours of work. The number of credits to be acquired in a class is defined in the module descriptions (link to the study documents) for the individual subjects.
ECTS
The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a student-centred system for accumulating and transferring credits for course work. This makes it possible to compare student performance within the European Higher Education Area, and for students to take their credits with them when changing from one university to another, also between countries. Thus students can take credits achieved at home or abroad – for example in the context of a semester abroad – back to their home university. When a student changes university after completing a degree (or discontinuing a course of study) the new university can evaluate their existing performance more transparently.
