General information for the degree programme
This course of study aims at imparting subject-specific knowledge in the fields of language, literature and culture. Furthermore, students acquire theoretical and practical skills that enable them to the following: independent scientific work, the adequate classification of scientific issues, reception and production of texts, scientific analyses of communication processes and the development of problem-solving strategies. Students have to choose two of the following majors: English and American Studies, German Studies (Literature/Linguistics and Cultural Studies), Romance Studies (French/Italian), Slavonic Studies (Polish/Russian/Czech), Greek or Latin Studies, Protestant/Catholic Theology, History, Art History/Musicology or Philosophy.
Students have to attend several modules, from basic modules during the first year, to advanced modules during the second year and specialised modules during the third year. Studies in modern languages are complemented with practical language courses (and a study abroad period of at least 10 weeks); studies in Greek or Latin philology are complemented with translation courses. In addition to the modules of the two majors, students also attend courses in general aptitudes (e.g. foreign languages, communicative competences, management, study abroad term, etc.). Furthermore, all students are expected to complete a four-week internship. The bachelor’s thesis completes the programme.
