Living and studying in Dresden
There is of course more to studying than just the library, the lecture hall, or the cafeteria. Dresden with its cultural and historical significance as a Saxon metropolis is the ideal place to study. The Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies is located at Wiener Straße 48 as part of the campus of Technische Universität Dresden. Founded in 1993, its profile combines a philological basis with a cultural studies orientation. The diversity of the offered degree programmes is reflected in its five institutes.
The Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies is one of 14 faculties of Technische Universität Dresden, the largest university in Saxony.

Degree programmes at the Faculty
The Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies comprises 5 institutes: English and American Studies, German Studies and Media Studies, Classical Philology, Romance Studies, Slavic Studies. These are also the subjects that can be studied within the framework of the Faculty's degree programmes.
TU Dresden offers various self-assessment tools to assist those who are undecided about their study orientation. The DiagnostikTool offers you the possibility of a general orientation with regard to degree programmes that suit you.
The Online Self-Assessment tool of German Studies allows prospective students to compare their expectations of German Studies with the reality in a short self-test.
In the Bachelor's degree programme Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, you study one of these subjects and combine it with a second subject, which is either another one of these subjects or one of the subjects offered by the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science.

In the teacher training degree programmes, the offers depend on the type of school. You can find an overview of the subjects offered here. Further information on teacher training and its structure is provided by the SINS and the ZLSB.
In the Master's degree programme Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, only one of the 5 subjects offered by the Faculty is selected, and combined with a supplementary area. Further informationen is provided in the SINS and on the pages of the Faculty.
In addition, the Faculty offers the Master European Languages and the double Master's degree Dresden-Trento.
Costs and financing
The question of financing your studies is an important issue. There are various possibilities for financing your studies at TU Dresden (BaföG, scholarships, bank loans), which you can find compiled on the websites of the Central Student Information and Counselling Services and the Studentenwerk Dresden.
It is to your advantage that the Free State of Saxony does not charge general tuition fees. Nevertheless, you will have to calculate with semi-annual semester fees of TU Dresden in addition to the general cost of living. In return, you will receive your personal Semesterticket, which entitles you to free transportation in the entire area of the Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe (VVO) as well as the local trains of the Deutsche Bahn AG in the whole of Saxony, and which offers you discounted bike-sharing conditions. In addition, you can apply for your student Emeal, which entitles you to use the discounted student meals in the canteens of Studentenwerk Dresden.
