Responsibilities of the Examination Office
The Examination Office team within Academic Affairs Office of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences is happy to advise you on the matters below. Please also take note of the latest information from the school.
Examinations
The Examination Office provides information on examination dates, is responsible for examination registration and de-registration, withdrawal from examinations for a compelling reason, taking exams early and retaking exams.
Recognition of study achievements and examined assessments after switching subjects or universities
If you switch subjects within TU Dresden or transfer from another university, you can have your graded academic work recognized and credited towards your studies.

Final theses
The Examination Office is responsible for the registration, assignment and submission of Bachelor’s, Master’s and Diplom theses as well as repeat attempts and the issuance of references.
Maternity leave
The university is responsible for ensuring its members receive the appropriate maternity leave. The university can only effectively implement the provisions on maternity leave or take the required measures (§ 9 to § 12 MuSchG) if you report your pregnancy to the Examination Office team in a timely manner.

BAföG
Any student who receives BAföG (German federal student loans) will receive funding for four semesters without a review of their study performance. Starting from the 5th semester, educational financing will only be provided if the student can prove that they have completed what is “typically required” for each subject studied by the end of the 4th semester. You can receive this proof from the Examination Office.
Miscellaneous
The Examination Office is responsible for issuing your transcript of records, will help you to find your study documents, and also issues other certificates and attestations. The Examination Office also provides administrative assistance to the Examination Committees.

Examination Committees
One of the tasks of the Examination Committees is to ensure compliance with the study and examination regulations and to appoint examiners. The Examination Committees deal with special cases in connection with examinations and examinations (e.g. recognition of examinations taken at other universities or abroad, postponement of examinations due to illness, accusations of plagiarism and attempts at cheating). The individual Examination Committees are comprised of designated professors as well as their deputies, academic staff and students. The appointment to the Examination Committees is made in accordance with the applicable examination regulations.
