Exam Registration
Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science and Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies (SLK)
Online exam registration for the 2023 summer semester will take place from
April 17 to June 28, 2023.
We would like to urgently request that you register as soon as possible. Registration requests tend to pile up right before the deadline, resulting in longer processing times. This leaves no extra time for any consultations with the examiners or other clarification. Any mistakes you may notice during exam registration in the courses you have attended can also no longer be rectified. Since registration for exams you have not yet taken can be withdrawn through June 28, corrections can still be made to your planning.
Registration is only possible via HISQIS for the following courses:

General regulations for registering for examined assessments:
- Make sure your registration is submitted in full and on time! On time means that you must register before taking the examination. Examinations that have taken place prior to the registration phase are exempt from this regulation. Preliminary work, ungraded examined assessments, presentations, logs, etc. must also be registered, not just tests and oral examinations. Always be sure to compare the registrations you have submitted with the examinations required in the module descriptions. These also include which examinations belong to which module.
- Only register for examinations that you really want to take and submit! Any examination for which you register but do not take will automatically be awarded a grade of 5.0.
If you cannot find the correct examiner when trying to register for an examination, please ask them directly why the correct examination is not available as an option. Do not register the examination under a different module just because you haven’t found “your” examiner in the right place. - Do not register an examination with any examiner except for the one you are looking for! If this is not possible, please first ask your examiner why before proceeding. It is possible that the examination was overlooked in creating the list of options. This can only be fixed by the examiners.
- If an examination cannot be found in the standard online list (this applies to repeat examinations in particular) because they are not being held in the current semester or are not being held by the desired examiner, then consultation can be held with the examiner and, pending their approval, the examination can be registered in writing. Use the form available on our website and have the examiner (digitally) sign it. Then, send a scan of the signed form to the Examination Office. The examiner may also send the form to the Examination Office and provide their approval via email.
- This form can also be used if exceptional special agreements are made allowing you to take an examination which is not being offered.
- Be sure to print or create and save a confirmation of registration (Anmeldebestätigung) upon completing your registration. Be sure that your registration is complete. The confirmation must not be submitted to the Examination Office. It serves as a form of proof – especially if you need to clear up a registration mistake at a later time.
If you have difficulties registering (you cannot find the examination, the system does not allow any more registrations, etc.), then please contact the Examination Office immediately!
Please always remember to print out a confirmation of registration upon completing your registration and check to make sure it is complete! This confirmation serves as a form of proof for you, but must not be submitted to the Examination Office.
Erasmus students are not bound to specific Examination Regulations, so they need not and cannot register online via HISQIS or Selma. They receive special proof of the work they have completed to be confirmed by their Faculty's Erasmus Officer in their transcript of records at the end of their stay here.
Regulations for repeat examinations
Students who have failed their first examination attempt in a compensable module on account of insufficient credits can only repeat this examined assessment if this individual grade of 5.0 would result in their failure of the entire module. Repeating an examined assessment in such a case is not possible unless all other grades for the module have already been recorded and the module grade is lower than a 4.0. Repeat examinations just for the sake of improving a grade are excluded by the Examination Regulations.
Students who have failed a module for the first time within the definition of the above-mentioned regulation must repeat all failed examinations within a year of having completed the module. If the student fails the module again even after their repeat examination, they have the right to a second repeat examination. This can (and must!) also be registered online. A request for exception is no longer required. If a second repeat examination is not taken or if it is taken and failed, the student will have irrevocably failed the module. In this case, studies in this subject cannot be continued.
If you have difficulties registering (examination/examiner not available), then please contact the Examination Office immediately!
General Notes
If some grades are still missing, then they have not been submitted to the Examination Office. We therefore ask you to refrain from calling.
Requests for signed and stamped attestations of grades (for applications, etc.) can be sent to the Examination Office via email.
You can make changes to your registration during the registration period. The registration is binding. Once the deadline has passed, you will no longer be able to make any changes.
If, due to illness, you are unable to take an examination that is taking place on a specific date (written test, oral exam, presentation – anything besides written work such as term papers, projects, essays, ...), please submit a doctor's note to the Examination Office. Please use this form. Please send a scan via email and submit the original via post. Please inform your examiner that you will not be able to make it to your exam. You will need to re-register to make up the exam at a later date.
