MENTORING PROGRAMME FOR PUPILS
Do you need help with student orientation?
If you are wondering how your chosen program is structured and what the university expects of you, then take part in the mentoring program for pupils! A university student will give you straightforward and personal answers to all of your questions and offer you individual insight into student life plus a few insider tips.
We will match you with your own personal mentor (student), who will assist and advise you throughout the process of selecting a course of studies and will meet with you one-on-one at the university in order to give you insight into your chosen program and the university setting.
Mentoring is a very individualized relationship between an experienced person (mentor) and a somewhat less experienced person (mentee) with a focus on the needs of the latter but without excluding an opportunity for mutual sharing of knowledge and experience during the mentoring period. The key component of mentoring is the personal exchange between the mentee and the mentor. It all revolves around passing on knowledge and experience. Mentoring is a personal learning process that takes place in a safe environment. The relationship between the two partners is voluntary and is intended to proceed on a basis of equal standing and trust, despite any differences in age and experience.
It is crucial to note that the development of the relationship does not come about by the mentor presenting the mentee with prefabricated solutions, but by jointly discussing and critically observing the mentee’s expectations and perceptions.
TU Dresden categorizes its 124 study programs in 6 study areas. Do you want to start mentoring in one of these study areas? Then, feel free to browse these 6 areas.
Mathematics and Natural Science
The pupil mentoring program of TU Dresden is available to all secondary school students in grades 9–13 who want to study at the university. The program is free of charge and can be registered for at any time. Mentoring programs start every semester – spring (May) and fall (November). The program is mainly conducted in german.
Simply read our terms of service, print out the registration form, fill it out, have a parent sign it if you are still a minor, and send it to us by e-mail or by post.
If you are still undecided, you can take part in the program as often as you like.
We will confirm within 7 days by e-mail that we have received your application and will invite you to the next kick-off event at TU Dresden. The event will take place either in the Dülfer ballroom or the rooms of the Alte Messe (Old Cafeteria) or online. At the event, you will go through a program orientation and receive initial information on your chosen program. In addition, you will also get to know all of the other program participants and many of our student mentors. Best of all, the Alte Mensa cafeteria will spoil you with lots of tasty treats!
Work together with your mentoring partner to set up your own personal mentoring program. Jointly determine the goals of your mentoring and discuss how much time you can and want to invest. Keep your personal time limits in mind – you still need to leave enough time for your schoolwork and other activities.
Our recommendations for your personal mentoring blueprint:
- Exploring the TU Dresden campus
- Touring the faculty of your chosen program
- Visiting lectures and seminars
- Going on excursions
- Visiting the SLUB

- They serve as volunteers.
- They are familiar with your chosen program – with all of its ups and downs –
- and can provide you with insider tips if you end up studying at TU Dresden.
