We, the TU Big Band, are a student jazz orchestra dedicated to (big band) music since 1968. Founded at that time as a TU wind orchestra, we now play mainly jazz, funk and dance music. The association consists of about 60 members, who are passionate musicians or benefactors. Our association activities are not limited to our weekly rehearsals, Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm in the Tusculum Student House, but also include joint performances and concert tours, rehearsal trips, and occasional leisure activities.
TU Big Band
Would you like to join us? As we are a student band, members sometimes move away, leave for a semester abroad or enter professional life, so we are always happy to welcome new interested musicians who enjoy performing together. At the moment, we are looking for more musicians at various instruments. On our website https://tubigband.de/mitspielen, we have listed the vacancies that can be filled. Due to our history as an original wind orchestra, we are not only looking for classical big band instruments, but also have clarinets and flutes in the TU Big Band. So, if you are interested in getting to know us, just get in touch with us or come along to a rehearsal. We are looking forward to meeting you!

Our repertoire is manifold and open to members who enjoy experimenting. DIE BÜHNE is a learning-by-doing theatre, a lab with professional production conditions and a lot of freedom. DIE BÜHNE is one of Germany’s oldest and largest student theatres, and has existed for more than 60 years. TU Dresden's Folklore Dance Ensemble "Thea Maass"
Since 1950, TU Dresden's Thea Maass Folklore Dance Ensemble has been one of the most impressive and artistically distinguished, amateur dance groups in Germany. About 40 dancers and musicians are committed to the cultivation and interpretation of German dance folklore as well as to the dancing interpretation of traditional customs from various German regions within challenging stage choreographies.
Our offer in the winter semester 20/21:
Folk dance course - including body training and live music
Folk dance sounds outdated and ponderous in some ears - we will convince you of the opposite!
You will learn the basic steps of polka, waltz, mazurka, Rheinländer and the Dreher dance.
From 5th November 2020 every Thursday (19:00 to 20:30) in the Alte Mensa.
cinema Kino im Kasten
The university is not only a place for learning and studying, but is also offering you numerous opportunities to test your skills and discover new things. A little outside the TU main campus, on August-Bebel-Straße, there is the cinema Kino im Kasten, or KiK for short. In next to no time, the auditorium can be transformed into a cinema. From 8:30 p.m. onwards, you can escape the dreary everyday life and immerse yourself in exciting film worlds. We from the KiK are a group of students from all kinds of disciplines who enjoy sharing their passion for films. We have been running the KiK since 1993, and regularly organise film screenings, sometimes with real 35mm projectors.
Would you like to get involved? We cordially invite you to take a look behind the scenes of the KiK, without any obligation. In addition to the hard work as a film projectionist, programme planner, caterer, ticket ripper, public relations officer or webmaster, we do have a lot of fun, of course. At our regular meetings, you will get to know Dresden's student clubs and will have the opportunity to chat about films, film distribution, cinema technology and everything else.
Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific and Art Collections / Exhibitions
The Office for Academic Collections brings together the unique holdings of TU Dresden’s university collections. It comprises 40 collections from the fields of science and technology, as well as a significant number of art collections. The permanent exhibition has diverse pieces from each area, while the changing special exhibitions in the Görges Building combine aspects of science and art.
