Biology lab technicians collaborate with scientists in project teams. They prepare animal, plant, microorganism and cell culture examinations and conduct them following scientists’ instructions. They observe and monitor testing procedures and evaluate the results. Planning and examination as well as the analysis of testing documentation are supported with specialist lab software. Biology lab technicians work in medical and biological research, applied medicine and public health. In industry, they are often employed in pharmaceutical and cosmetic production, in food manufacturing and at companies that create biotechnology products. They work for the most part in laboratories, but are sometimes stationed at animal research centers.

Basic mandatory qualifications
- Knowledge of methodologies in chemistry and physics
- Ability to conduct work in the fields of microbiology, cell cultures, molecular biology, biochemistry, diagnostics (hematological and histological work) and zoological pharmacology
Elective qualifications
- Ability to conduct immunological and biochemical work
- Ability to conduct biotechnology work
- Ability to conduct work in genetics and molecular biology
- Ability to conduct work with cell cultures
- Knowledge of information technology as it applies to the laboratory
Prerequisites
In addition to good to excellent grades in natural science subjects and English, applicants are expected to be highly motivated and quick to learn.
